Absolutely brilliant experience. The accommodation (Ravenscraig guest house) and food was spot on for both quality and the location. Bike security and facilities for wash and repair was excellent. Our guide, Mike Wilkes couldn’t have done a better job of informing and including all the riders in our group. The routes ticked all the boxes and the trails and views will be memories to last a lifetime. Bought the ticket, had a great ride😁👍

TERMS & CONDITIONS

SAMPLE ITINARY

Day 0 – Arrival

Guests will be transferred from Edinburgh to Aberdeenshire to their accommodation, where we will build the bikes, get to know each other, and head out for a 2–3 hour warm-up and ability assessment ride in the local forest. After the ride, any necessary bike adjustments will be completed so we are fully prepared for the week ahead. A welcome dinner will be taken at the local pub — a great start to the week.

This marks the beginning of the Atlas Ride Co Clan Week experience: a relaxed, fully supported journey through Scotland, following the route of the Trans Caledonia. With no pressure, no timing chips, and no start lines, Clan Week is about great riding, good company, and experiencing Scotland’s finest trails at your own pace.

Day 1 & 2 – Aberdeenshire

Day One journeys through the heart of Royal Deeside, linking famous granite-slabbed mountain trails with hidden gems tucked away in ancient pine forests. It’s big-sky riding in classic Scottish terrain, with plenty of time to soak in the landscape and settle into the rhythm of the week. Deliverance will have you shaking in your boots, and Heartbreak Ridge will make you simply fall in love with Scotland more and more every pedal stroke.

Day Two starts in Pitfichie and ends in Glenlivet, an area known for its rich mountain bike heritage and superb natural trails, but don't forget the Whisky. We pass through Tomintol, often described as the highest village in the Highlands at around 345m above sea level and the perfect destination for a wee dram. Expect epic riding, memorable venues and a true point-to-point journey as we edge closer to the Highlands. With Atlas Ride Co’s support team handling logistics, you can simply focus on the ride and the experience.

Day 3 – Highlands

Laggan sits in the heart of the Highlands, surrounded by dramatic peaks and vast open landscapes. Munros rise in every direction while the River Spey flows from the Monadhliath Mountains, creating a spectacular setting for a day on the bike.

The trails here offer a mix of gritty, technical sections and flowing singletrack, ensuring there’s something for everyone. Orca, Tomb Stone and Honey Monster are incredible trails set in one of Scotland's finest trail centres. With man-made and natural terrain and a view to die for, this location ticks some serious Scotland bucket lists. The now-famous Laggan “Wolftrax” name comes from the area's historical connection to wolves, which once roamed the Highlands. Keep your eyes peeled.

Day 4 – Perthshire

The picturesque town of Dunkeld is framed by Perthshire’s towering forests, home to some of Scotland’s biggest trees. With its old stone bridge spanning the River Tay, the setting feels calm and timeless.

The trails surrounding the village are among the best in Scotland, rocky, rooty and beautifully natural. They reward focus and good line choice, but Clan Week gives you the freedom to ride them your way. Take your time, support each other, and enjoy the depth and character that make Dunkeld such a special destination. We finish by the river for a pint in the Scottish sunshine (rain) and relax after a serious day on the trails.

Day 5 & 6 – Scottish Borders

No Scottish mountain bike journey would be complete without the iconic trails of the Tweed Valley. These forests along the River Tweed have shaped the country’s riding scene for decades and remain some of the finest trails anywhere in the UK.

Two big days in the Borders bring the week to a close, packed with classic descents, flowing sections and plenty of shared moments on the hill. We’ll ride the very best of the Tweed Valley before finishing with a celebration meal and a wee dram or two — a chance to reflect on the week, the landscapes we’ve travelled through, and the friendships formed along the way.

TRAVEL

Included in the price is all your travel whilst on the trip with us in Scotland, including collection and drop off from Edinburgh.

If you are flying into the UK and travelling to us by public transport, there are great rail links to Edinburgh.

ABILITY ACCESSOR

  • Advised bike - 140mm - 170mm Enduro bike *
  • Fitness - 3*
  • Skills and Technical ability - 3*
  • Riding Style - All Natural / Spirit of Adventure

The riding standard and fitness level required to ride the Clan Weeks is of a high intermediate/advanced standard. This is not only for your enjoyment and personal safety, but it is also for the group as a whole. The riding can be technical and challenging so your ability should be suited to the trip.

TRAIL ETIQUETTE

We need to do our bit! 7 - 14 mountain bikers will be pretty conspicuous and we’ll have some impact on the landscape and other trail users. As a company, we’re 100% committed to minimising our impact in every way we can. We operate a strict ‘pack it out’ policy for all litter (including banana skins and orange peel), and we try to leave as little trace of our passing as possible.

While we’ll enjoy some epic descents and trails, please ride in control and at a speed that reflects your line of sight and abilities. We’ll certainly meet walkers and we want any interactions to be as positive as possible. It’s important to give mountain bikers a good name.

TRAVEL INSURANCE

It is essential and a required part of your booking process that you have holiday insurance in place for your trip that covers against medical and personal accidents and all the activities, including mountain biking you will take part in.

We have worked with Yellow Jersey Cycle insurance for the past 3 years now and feel they offer the perfect Travel and Bike insurance package. All Atlas Ride Co clients also receive a 10% discount on their Mountain Bike and Travel policies. Your discount code will be in your booking confirmation.

What an amazing few days riding!!!
This had everything from big mountain ascents, descents, and ridgelines to local hidden trails.
Secret bothys and river crossings all added to the experience.
The accommodation was fantastic and had everything you needed from bike storage, charging and cleaning facilities!! The rooms and particularly the breakfasts were amazing and left you fuelled up for the big rides ahead.
The guides were very knowledgeable, funny and helpful with particular sections of trails.
My eyes and neck also got a very good workout as the scenery is just unreal.
Highly recommended and would certainly be doing this again.

Frequently asked questions

Can I bring a non-riding partner or friend along?

Get in touch with our team directly if you're travelling with someone who won't be riding, as accommodation and logistics across a multi-region tour like this need a bit more planning than a single-base holiday. We'd rather talk it through properly than have you assume something's included that isn't, given how much moves around during the week.

Do I have to prove my ability before booking?

Yes, we ask every rider to complete an honest ability evaluation by email before confirming a place, because the terrain across Deeside, the Highlands and the Tweed Valley genuinely varies and we want every group to be well matched. It's not about gatekeeping, it's about making sure you have the best week possible and aren't left struggling or holding up a group riding above your level.

How is a Clan Week different from actually racing the Trans Caledonia?

The race is a proper competitive enduro, with stages, timing and a start list, and it's a serious undertaking even for strong riders. A Clan Week lets you experience the same spirit of a big multi-region Scottish adventure, riding brilliant trails across the Highlands, Perthshire and the Borders, without needing to race anyone or worry about stage times. It's for riders who want the adventure and the trails, not the competition.

How is this different from booking a normal Tweed Valley or Cairngorms trip with Atlas Ride Co?

Our destination-based trips are built around a single base and region, whereas a Clan Week is a genuine point-to-point tour across four distinct parts of Scotland in one week, with your accommodation and riding changing location most days. If you want to properly experience how varied Scottish mountain biking is, from Aberdeenshire through to the Borders, a Clan Week covers far more ground than a single-destination holiday ever could.

How many riders and guides are on a typical Clan Week?

Groups run between 7 and 14 riders, which keeps things sociable and proper "clan" territory without ever feeling like an anonymous big-group tour. Our guides know every region on the route intimately, from the Deeside natural trails to the Tweed Valley's built network, so you're getting genuinely local knowledge in each area rather than one guide trying to know all of Scotland equally well.

How much does a Clan Week cost, and what's the single supplement?

Prices start from £2,290 per person for the week. If you're travelling solo and want your own room rather than sharing, there's a single supplement of £500 to £700 depending on the specific accommodation and availability across the route.

Is there an environmental or trail etiquette policy on the tour?

Yes, we run a strict pack-it-out policy across the whole week, whether you're riding remote natural trails in Glenlivet or built singletrack at Wolftrax and Innerleithen. A huge part of what makes this route special is the quality and condition of the trails themselves, so our guides brief every group on etiquette and looking after the ground we're lucky enough to ride.

Is this trip suitable if I've never ridden in Scotland before?

Absolutely, and honestly it's one of the best introductions to Scottish mountain biking going, since you get everything from raw Highland singletrack to Speyside whisky country to the world-class built trails of the Tweed Valley in a single week. Just make sure your riding level matches the red and black grading, since the variety of terrain is part of the appeal but it does mean consistently technical riding throughout.

Is travel insurance compulsory for a Clan Week?

Yes, proper travel and mountain bike insurance is mandatory for every rider, given the remote sections of Highland and Deeside terrain we cover across the week. We work with Yellow Jersey Cycle Insurance, who offer a 10% discount to our guests if you need to sort cover before booking.

What ability level do I need for a Clan Week?

We grade this trip for high intermediate to advanced riders who are genuinely comfortable on red and black graded trails, with both fitness and technical skill rated 3 out of 5. You'll be climbing and descending across six consecutive days of varied Scottish terrain, so this isn't the right first mountain bike holiday if you're newer to the sport.

What are the deposit and payment terms?

We take a 30% deposit to secure your place, which is non-refundable, with the balance due 8 weeks before departure. Your payments are held in a dedicated Travel Trust account for added protection, which matters on a trip like this involving accommodation and logistics across multiple regions of Scotland.

What are the named trails we'll actually be riding in the Tweed Valley?

The final two days take in some legendary Tweed Valley riding around Innerleithen, including trails like Deliverance, Heartbreak Ridge, Orca, Tomb Stone and Honey Monster, plus a lap of New York New York up at the Golfie. The Golfie is genuinely one of the birthplaces of UK downhill and enduro riding, so finishing your week there is a proper send-off.

What does the day-by-day route actually look like?

You'll spend day zero settling in with a warm-up ride in Aberdeenshire, before two proper days of riding through Royal Deeside and Glenlivet, home to some of Scotland's finest natural trails and famous whisky country. Day three takes you west into the Highlands around Laggan, including the excellent Wolftrax trail centre, before day four moves you into Perthshire and the trails around Dunkeld. The final two days finish the week in the Scottish Borders' Tweed Valley, riding some of the country's most celebrated mountain bike terrain before you're dropped back in Edinburgh.

What exactly are the Trans Caledonia Clan Weeks?

Clan Weeks are our seven-night, six-day guided mountain bike tour across Scotland, built as the non-race alternative to the Trans Caledonia enduro. Where the race is a timed, competitive event shuttling riders between iconic Scottish locations, a Clan Week takes you across much of the same incredible ground at a guided, sociable pace, with no clock running and no results board at the end of the day.

What size bike should I bring?

A proper enduro bike with 140mm to 170mm of travel is what most of our Clan Week guests ride, giving you enough capability for the natural Highland descents and the built trails at Wolftrax and Innerleithen while still climbing reasonably well across six long days. If you're unsure what you've got is suitable, send us the spec before you book and we'll tell you straight.

What time of year do Clan Weeks run?

Clan Weeks run through the main Scottish riding season when the Highland trails, Deeside terrain and Tweed Valley network are all at their best, giving you reliable ground conditions across every region on the route. Get in touch with our team for specific 2026 dates, particularly if you're hoping to tie a week in around the Trans Caledonia race itself.

What's included in the price?

Your Clan Week covers six days of guided riding, seven nights' accommodation, a welcome meal and a celebration meal to bookend the week, all lunches and trailside snacks, full mechanical support plus bike washing facilities each evening, collection and drop-off in Edinburgh, and passenger protection insurance. We also build in post-ride socials along the way, including a whisky tasting, because a week riding through Speyside and Deeside without trying the local single malt would be a missed opportunity.

What's Wolftrax like, and is it different from the other riding on the trip?

Wolftrax, near Laggan in the Highlands, is a proper trail centre with built red and black graded trails through native pine forest, so it's a different flavour of riding to the natural, big-mountain terrain earlier in the week. It's a great change of pace mid-tour, giving you flowing, well-built singletrack and jumps rather than the raw, exposed riding of Deeside and Glenlivet.

Where do we actually stay each night?

You're in a mix of traditional Scottish guest houses and small hotels rather than big chain accommodation, chosen for character and location close to each day's riding as much as comfort. It's part of what makes a Clan Week feel like touring the country rather than just riding the same trail centre for a week.

Where does the tour start and finish?

Every Clan Week starts and finishes in Edinburgh, so you can fly, train or drive into the city, and we take care of getting you and your bike around Scotland from there. It also means you don't need to worry about one-way travel logistics or getting a hire car back to a different airport at the end of the week.

Will I get proper support if my bike breaks mid-week?

Yes, mechanical support and bike washing are built into every day of the tour, so if something goes wrong on the trail our guides can help sort it, and you'll have somewhere proper to clean your bike down each evening rather than leaving it caked in Highland mud overnight. It genuinely makes a difference riding six consecutive days back to back.
