Yes - Pleney runs sunset sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays until 7pm from 7 July to 29 August, and the Zore chairlift does the same on Fridays until 7pm from 10 July to 4 September. It's one of our favourite ways to grab a few extra laps after a lazy start to the day, with softer light and noticeably quieter trails.

Yes, e-bikes are a great option outside the lift-served window since you're not relying on a chairlift or gondola to get up the hill in the first place. We hire e-MTBs through the shop year-round within the riding season, so it's worth asking us about e-bike options if your dates fall in the gaps between different lifts opening and closing.

The Portes du Soleil pass covers the whole network across France and Switzerland, but each individual lift only operates within its own dates, so your pass doesn't guarantee every lift is running on every day of your holiday. Always check which specific lifts are open for your travel dates before you plan a big cross-border loop, particularly early or late in the season.

They can, yes - these dates are set by the individual lift companies each year and confirmed each year, but a heavy late snowpack or essential maintenance can occasionally push an opening back by a few days. We always recommend checking with us close to your travel dates, especially if you're travelling right at the very start or end of the season.

It does - Chatel now stays open later than it used to, so if you've ridden Morzine before and remember the Chatel side closing earlier in the season, that's no longer the case. It's worth revisiting Chatel later in the summer than you might have previously, especially if you enjoyed it on past trips and assumed the window had already closed.

Lift operators can and do close for wind, lightning or poor visibility at short notice, which is normal for any high-altitude lift network and not something specific to the Portes du Soleil. We keep an eye on conditions for our guests during your stay and can help you plan around a forecast that looks unsettled, but day-to-day closures are ultimately down to the lift companies' own safety calls.

Yes, particularly if you're travelling in the first or last couple of weeks of the season - dates are confirmed well in advance, but conditions can occasionally shift an opening or closing by a few days either way. We'll always flag anything relevant to your specific trip, but a quick check with us a few weeks out never hurts if you're riding right at the edges of the season.

Absolutely, and a lot of experienced riders prefer it - the trails are in great condition after being rebuilt over winter, it's quieter than peak July and August, and Pleney and Super Morzine are both fully open from 12 June. Just bear in mind the wider Portes du Soleil network, including Morgins, won't be fully open until 1 July, so a June trip suits riders happy to focus on the Morzine and Les Gets side rather than a full domain tour.

Early September is still excellent, with most of the network including Pleney, Super Morzine, Chatel and Les Lindarets running until 13 September, and Morgins staying open even later until 21 September. It's noticeably quieter than peak summer, the weather is often crisp and stable, and you'll find trails less chewed up after the busy August crowds have gone.

Chatel - Pre la Joux opens 26 June and this year runs all the way through to 13 September, which is actually new for 2026 - previously the Chatel link closed earlier in the season. It's good news if you like riding out to Chatel later in the summer.

Outside the official lift-served season, the trails themselves aren't going anywhere, but you'll be relying on natural riding, guided shuttles or uplift rather than the chairlifts and gondolas. If your dates fall outside the main window, get in touch with us before booking so we can tell you honestly what riding will actually be available rather than let you assume full lift access.

Aim for late July through mid-August - by then every lift in the network, including Morgins, Chatel and Les Crosets, is up and running, giving you the full 650km of trails and all 8 bike parks to explore. It's peak season though, so expect busier trails and book your accommodation and bike hire well in advance.

Le Pleney and Super Morzine are always among the earliest to fire up, opening 12 June for 2026. If you're keen to be first on the mountain each season, these two are the ones to watch, though we'd always recommend checking conditions with us close to the date, as a late snow year can push things back slightly.

Both of Les Gets' lifts open on 19 June, with closing dates running from 31 August through to 13 September depending on which lift. Les Gets is also hosting the UCI Downhill World Cup on 22-23 August 2026, so expect the bike park to be busy and some areas restricted around that weekend - worth avoiding if you want the trails to yourself.

Les Lindarets opens on 19 June for 2026, a week after Morzine's own lifts, and runs through to 13 September. It's worth building this into your itinerary if you're planning a full loop of the Portes du Soleil rather than sticking to Morzine and Les Gets.

In 2027 Le Pleney and Super Morzine both open for the season on 11 June and run through to 12 September, so that's your main window for lift-served riding right in the village. Book your trip anywhere inside those dates and you're guaranteed the full Morzine lift network, not just a partial opening.

The full Portes du Soleil doesn't come online all at once - Morzine's own lifts lead the way on 12 June, but Morgins on the Swiss side doesn't open until 1 July, so the network builds up gradually over the first few weeks of summer. If your trip is planned for early-mid June, you'll have brilliant riding around Morzine, Les Gets and Chatel, but the far reaches of the domain like Morgins won't be reachable by lift yet.

Mossettes and Les Crosets both close on 30 August, making them the first of the major lifts to shut for the year. These sit higher up the Portes du Soleil, so the shorter season is mostly down to weather and maintenance windows at altitude rather than anything specific to those areas.

Morgins has the longest season of the whole network for 2026, running from 1 July right through to 21 September. If you're planning a late-season trip, building your base around the Morgins side of the Portes du Soleil gives you the best chance of full lift access.

It mostly comes down to altitude and terrain - higher lifts like Mossettes hold snow later into the year and see conditions deteriorate sooner in autumn, so the operators build a shorter, more conservative season around that. Lower valley lifts like Le Pleney and Super Morzine can safely run a longer window from mid-June to mid-September.

In 2027 Les Gets hosts the UCI MTB World Championships, with downhill from 26th to 28th August and cross-country from 30th August to 4th September (provisional schedule). If you fancy spectating, there's a genuinely brilliant atmosphere. If you'd rather avoid the disruption and just want uninterrupted riding, we'd suggest either basing yourselves more around Morzine and Avoriaz during race weeks, or timing your trip for a different week entirely.
